John Chatmas, Jr. is the CEO of Waterloo Capital Management. John attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a BBA in Finance. Upon graduation, John accepted a position with Smith Barney at their world headquarters in New York and was accepted into a unique program where he worked with Smith Barney Asset Management, a large capitalization equity manager, and their Private Client Group.
In 1996, John left New York as a Senior Vice President for the Private Client Group and moved his consulting practice to Smith Barney’s Dallas Corporate Client Group. In 1999 John moved his team to Morgan Stanley’s Private Wealth Management office located in the Highland Park area of Dallas to focus on serving high-net-worth clients exclusively.
In April 2001 John accepted a position as Senior Vice President in Morgan Keegan & Company’s Private Client Group in Austin, Texas. In January of 2008 John left the wire-house world for what he believed to be the future of the advisory business and established his own independent, conflict-free practice.
In January 2011 John entered into a partnership and assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Virtus Private Wealth Management, the premier high-net-worth boutique in Austin, Texas. In December 2012 John acquired a controlling interest in Virtus. The result: Waterloo Capital Management.
John and his wife Christi have three children — Jack, Taylor, and Cooper. The Chatmases are active and involved members of Lakehills Church in Austin. John is an avid golfer, tennis player and sportsman.
In January of 2005 John and Christi Chatmas founded Caddie Central, Inc., Texas’s leading provider of caddie services for high-end resorts and private clubs.
